Mechanical Engineering Intern
During my internship at Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin company, I contributed to the design, analysis, and optimization of specialized aerospace hardware and test systems for spacecraft payloads. One of my primary projects involved independently designing and validating Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for a new spacecraft payload enclosure and integrated payload. This GSE provided dual vertical and horizontal support, incorporated safe lifting features, and maintained compatibility with vibration and thermal testing requirements. I performed comprehensive structural analyses using ANSYS, evaluating multiple load cases, conducting fastener analyses, and ensuring overall robustness. My findings and design justifications were presented during a customer-facing Preliminary Design Review.
Beyond GSE, I designed and prototyped a complex, low-volume aerospace mechanism assembly fixture that incorporated keyed housing alignment and a radial constraint solution to improve precision and prevent damage during assembly. I also developed ergonomic test fixtures to enhance technician comfort and operator safety, and applied 5S/6S methodologies to reorganize and standardize a satellite solar array assembly test cell, meeting aerospace industry standards for efficiency and ergonomics. Additionally, I authored detailed work instructions and troubleshooting protocols to standardize testing procedures, reduce downtime, and empower technicians to independently resolve operational issues.
